Wait, wait, first of all, please let me know what is code name exactly means? Okay, I got some good explanation from Wikipedia;

A project code name is a code name (usually a single word, short phrase or acronym) which is given to a project being developed by industry, academia, government, and other concerns.

Project code names are typically used for several reasons:

• To uniquely identify the project within the organization. Code names are frequently chosen to be outside the normal business/domain jargon that the organization uses, in order to not conflict with established terminology.
• To assist with maintaining secrecy of the project against rival concerns. Some corporations routinely change project names in order to further confuse competitors.
• When the goal of the project is to develop one or more commercial products, use of a code name allows the eventual choice of product nomenclature (the name the product(s) are marketed and sold under) to be decoupled from the development effort. This is especially important when one project generates multiple products, or multiple projects are needed to produce a single product. This allows for subprojects to be given a separate identity from the main project.
• As a political tool by management, to decouple an early phase of a development effort (which may have failed) from a subsequent phase (which may be given a “fresh start”).
• To prevent casual observers from concluding that a pre-release version is a new release of the product, thus helping reduce confusion.

Different organizations have different policies regarding the use and publication of project code names. Some companies take great pains to never discuss or disclose project code names outside of the company (other than with outside entities who have a need to know, and typically are bound with a non-disclosure agreement). Other companies never use them in official or formal communications, but widely disseminate project code names through informal channels (often in an attempt to create a marketing “buzz” for the project). Still others (such as Microsoft) discuss code names publicly, and routinely use project code names on beta releases and such, but remove them from final product(s). At the other end of the spectrum, Apple Computer includes the project code names for Mac OS X as part of the official name of the final product, a practice that was started in 2002 with Mac OS X v10.2 “Jaguar”.

Another example, Ubuntu must also be interesting. Why? Because the developer at Canonical have a code naming standard. They use a name of animal, combined with an adjective or an adverb, both the name of animal and adjective/adverb must have identical first letter. Here are some example; Ubuntu 10.04 code named as Lucid Lynx, Ubuntu 10.10 code named as Maverick Meerkat, and the coming Ubuntu 11.04 is code named as Natty Narwhal. Android, Google’s open source operating system for mobile devices, also have a unique code names, let’s take a look at the picture below.

I knew a project which is using some kind of yet funny code names, it is “Sound Juicer”, a CD ripper for GNOME 2. Curious? Let’s take a look:

Sekilas Mengenai Tes Pauli-Kraepelin

Agak susah juga mencari informasi mendetail mengenai kedua jenis tes ini, alasan yang biasa ditemui adalah terbentur pada masalah kode etik profesi psikolog. Dan berikut adalah sedikit informasi yang berhasil saya gali dari sini dan sini.

Tes Kraepelin diciptakan oleh seorang psikiater Jerman bernama Emilie Kraepelin pada tahun 1856-1926. Alat tes ini terlahir karena adanya dasar pemikiran dari faktor-faktor yang khas pada sensori sederhana, sensori motor, perseptual, dan tingkah laku. Pada mulanya merupakan tes kepribadian. Namun dalam perkembangannya telah berubah menjadi tes bakat, dengan cara merubah tekanan skoring dan interpretasi.

Awal mula dari tes Pauli adalah tes Kraepelin. Sejak tahun 1938, Prof. Dr. Richard Pauli bersama Dr. Wilhelm Arnold serta Prof. Dr. Van Hiss memperbaharui tes Kraepelin sehingga menjadi suatu metode yang sangat menguntungkan dan dapat dipercaya yang diberi nama “Tes Pauli”. Richard Pauli sebenarnya tergolong dalam suatu aliran yang ingin membuat psikologi sebagai suatu bidang eksperimen, seperti misalnya Wilhelm Wundt, Gustav Theodor Fechner, Oswald Kulpe dan lain-lain.

Kedua hasil tes tersebut dapat digunakan untuk mengukur daya tahan, ketekunan dan ketelitian. Hal ini erat kaitannya dengan potensi hasil kerja seseorang. Hasil kerja merupakan fungsi dari motivasi dan kemampuan. Motivasi adalah hasil dari niat dan kemauan. Sedangkan kemampuan merupakan kekuatan tindakan yang responsif berupa gerakan motorik, kegiatan intelektual, dan pengendalian diri.

Ada 6 aspek yang diukur dalam tes Pauli-Kraepelin, yakni:

2. Ketelitian dan tanggung jawab
3. Kehati-hatian
4. Pengendalian perasaan

Berkenalan dengan SimpleMath v1.0

Karena diinspirasi oleh tes Pauli-Kraepelin, maka SimpleMath juga secara tidak langsung turut mengadopsi beberapa hal yang terdapat dalam tes tersebut. SimpleMath hanya mengenai operasi penjumlahan dua angka. Begitu juga dengan cara menjawab, SimpleMath hanya menerima satu angka dalam setiap jawaban. Loh, bagaimana bila nanti keluar soal, misalnya; 7 + 8? Bukankah jawabannya = 15? Iya, benar, jawabannya memang lima belas. Namun kamu hanya diminta untuk memasukkan angka satuannya saja sebagai jawaban, yakni; 5.

Ada beberapa pengaturan yang bisa disesuaikan dalam SimpleMath, yakni;

• Durasi; kamu bisa menentukan sendiri berapa lama permainan akan berlangsung, dalam satuan menit.
• Pencatatan; kamu bisa menentukan apakah akan melihat statistik seputar kemampuan dasar penjumlahan matematika kamu atau tidak, di akhir permainan.
• Penampilan penghitung waktu; kamu bisa menentukan apakah penghitung waktu akan ditampilkan atau tidak.

Dan tidak hanya itu saja, SimpleMath juga dapat digunakan sebagai game edukasi untuk anak-anak. Sehingga mereka dapat juga berlatih operasi dasar penjumlahan matematika

This launcher was created to handle the ShutterDownXP v1.4 exe manifestation error. What is the ‘exe manifestation’? The exe manifestation is a routine done by common Windows XP programs to adopt current Windows XP’s controls style which gives the programs a nicer look and feel. But the case happened in ShutterDownXP v1.4 is that the exe manifestation seems to conflict with internal code in the program itself.

Note: This bugs only happened in Windows XP but not in newer version of Windows

I know, maybe it’s too late to release this launcher now since ShutterDownXP itself has been released on May 16, 2008 (one year, nine month, and fifteen days–counted from the release date to this launcher release date; March 3, 2010). But, better late than not at all, right?

How to use this launcher?

It’s really simple. Just place the launcher in the same folder where ShutterDownXP v1.4 was installed. And execute it to run ShutterDownXP v1.4 without annoying black text background in its configuration window.

Autostart with Windows issue

If you set ShutterDownXP v1.4 to run automatically while Windows starts, this launcher will automatically edit the start up strings in the registry, changing the loaded exe, and pointing it into this launcher. If you don’t want to start ShutterDownXP v1.4 automatically with Windows, then you must open the ‘Miscellaneous Settings’ window, tick the check box once then click on OK. Then do it once more time; open the ‘Miscellaneous Settings’ window, tick the check box once then click on OK to remove the start up strings from the registry and disable the autostart of ShutterDownXP v1.4.

Oh yeah, one more important thing you must know, (maybe) sometimes many antivirus false identifying this launcher as a malware, I guarantee you that there were no bad codes in this launcher, also it doesn’t build up internet connection nor transferring any data in the background. ActiveX control

Namun keberadaan ActiveX control ini terkadang menyusahkan programmer itu sendiri, apalagi setelah menginstal ulang sistem operasi. Menyalin satu persatu file OCX, DLL, dan TLB yang ada ke direktori sistem dan kemudian meregistrasikannya satu persatu pula ke Microsoft(C) Register Server (atau yang lebih familiar dengan sebutan regsvr32.exe) bukanlah suatu pekerjaan yang menyenangkan.

Hal itulah yang melatarbelakangi saya menulis program sederhana ini, ActiveX Register Agent v1.0. Dengan interface yang minimalis dan menerapkan konsep drag and drop layaknya di sistem operasi Mac OS X, diharapkan program ini dapat mempermudah sekaligus membuat proses copy dan register file-file ActiveX yang ada menjadi lebih menyenangkan.

Konsep drag and drop itu sendiri muncul ke benak saya karena sejak beberapa minggu belakangan, saya sedang PDKT dengan sistem operasi Mac OS X Leopard yang saya pasang di laptop Acer Aspire 2920. Dan ActiveX Register Agent v1.0 ini sendiri ditulis menggunakan Visual Basic 6 yang dijalankan di Windows XP SP2 dalam lingkungan virtual computer menggunakan VirtualBox

Berhubung ini merupakan versi pertama dari program ini, kemungkinan akan banyak perubahan dan penambahan fitur yang akan semakin mempermudah pekerjaan yang berkaitan dengan ActiveX control, salah satunya adalah kemampuan meng-unregister. So, stay tuned!

Tadi pagi (atau udah siang ya?) :P saya iseng membuka Gambas2, dan tidak ada niatan untuk membuat program baru. Yah, namanya juga iseng

Namun tiba-tiba ide itu datang, ketika berselancar di Kaskus, terlintas di benak saya untuk membuat program yang berisikan kata-kata yang umum digunakan di percakapan sehari-hari para penghuni The Indonesian Largest Community itu :) Beruntung saya menemukan thread yang dibuat oleh Gojess (salah seorang penghuni Kaskus) disini. And finally I coded and finished these really-really simple program. Both for Windows and Linux

Versi Windows saya buat menggunakan Visual Basic 6, dan versi Linux saya wujudkan menggunakan Gambas2. Khusus untuk versi Linux, perlu untuk dipastikan bahwa Gambas2 telah terlebih dahulu terinstal di sistem kamu sebelum mengeksekusi binary-nya :)

Re-coding all my previously released software from scratch. Due to data lost caused by an accident which burn my harddisk. I know, to start it all from the beginning will need more time spent by designing and coding. Absolutely, unless I have had finished my these and reached my scholar degree, I will unable to do it in this short time…

Through this post I also would like to bid my apologize to all those who had sent me e-mail requesting ShutterDownXP v1.4 and TOYD (Text On Your Desktop) v1.2 registration code. I’m sorry I can’t provide you the registration code nor doesn’t reply your e-mails at this time. Why? The answer is relatively simple: I also lost the registrator which sorely needed to generate the registration code. And to re-code the registration routine isn’t an easy job for me. That’s a routine I have had made for about one year by doing such a trial and error and make a numb clone to my ShutterDownXP and TOYD codes to act as a guinea pig. It combines various encryption algorithms to generate an appropriate registration code based on your name and unique computer code. Maybe the routine is just a lame routine for those experts in programming and algorithms, but not for me

Known Bug In ShutterDownXP v1.4

There’s one known bug in ShutterDownXP v1.4 as reported by one of ShutterDownXP v1.4 user while running it under Windows XP with its default Luna theme. The bug caused by the use of GUI manifestation which proposed to make ShutterDownXP v1.4 GUI appearance looks better and nicer by adopting current Windows XP’s theme controls.

Unfortunately the code were lacking and it doesn’t do its job well which drive some ShutterDownXP’s v1.4 controls in the ‘Change Execution Settings’ dialog box, turn into black. However, it doesn’t affect in Windows Vista.

To avoid the black colored controls, you can try changing your current Windows XP’s Luna theme into classic theme or use other third party theme.

Why Don’t You Open and Spread The ShutterDownXP’s Source Code?

One of ShutterDownXP user once throw me those question. In my opinion, to open ShutterDownXP’s code at this time will remain such a rubbish. Why? Yeah, the main code isn’t special enough, I know you can find the snippet to shut down your computer, elsewhere in the internet easily and build your own version of shut down manager instead of using ShutterDownXP. I planned to open the code once it completed and the all lines well neated :)

Back to Topic, When Will You Start Re-coding Your Software?

I don’t know. But, I’ll do it step by step if I have enough free time to do it. And maybe, I will change the name of the software to express the re-born of its new generation. And still, I will use Visual Basic as its programming environment. Why don’t you try using another programming language? Hmm… I would but I couldn’t. Why? Because, the only desktop programming language familiar to me is Visual Basic :P
